2009 Colorado’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Junior Livestock Sale Brings in Over $350,000 for 4H & FFA Youth

PUEBLO, Colo. – The annual Colorado’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Junior Livestock Sale at the Colorado State Fair is one of the largest events of its kind in the state. According to preliminary totals, the 2009 sale drew in approximately $350,500 for Colorado’s 4-H and FFA youth.

“Our judges have commented about the high-quality animals they’ve seen this year at the Colorado State Fair and that is a direct reflection of the hard work performed by the kids participating in our livestock shows and sale,” said State Fair General Manager, Chris Wiseman.

The sale is instrumental in supporting the future of Colorado’s agribusiness as it demonstrates to youth the importance of raising quality livestock and the work required of those who pursue careers in agriculture. The sale also helps youth exhibitors raise money for college and to participate in future livestock projects. In 2008, the sale drew in $393,000.

“The Colorado State Fair would like to thank the generous buying groups who support Colorado’s youth in agriculture, without them this event would not be possible,” said Wiseman.

Some of tonight’s highlights include:

Grand Champion Beef       $52,000   Sam Brown and Family
Grand Champion Hog        $17,000   Pigskin Buckaroos
