All Aboard the Colorado State Fair Express

PUEBLO, Colo. –Reminiscent of days gone by, the Colorado State Fair Express is ready to put glamour back into travel.

It has been a decade since a passenger special has gone down the rails south of Denver. Thanks to the efforts of Congressman John Salazar and Union Pacific, once again passengers may ride down the Front Range. Congressman Salazar will be the first to board the train in Denver and the first to exit onto the platform in Pueblo. Senator Ken Salazar and Pueblo Chieftain Publisher Bob Rawlings will also be on board for this historic event.

On Saturday, August 25, 2007, a Union Pacific steam locomotive will depart from Denver’s Union Station for Pueblo’s Union Depot. This round trip train ride will have every passenger feeling like a VIP. Tickets are selling quickly and should be purchased soon in order to ensure a seat.

More than just a scenic train ride, the Colorado State Fair Express is a full entertainment package. “The Colorado State Fair Express is a great way to experience the 2007 Colorado State Fair,” stated Fair Manager Chris Wiseman. “Passengers get to ride on one of the largest steam locomotives in the world on their way to visit everything from a live stingray exhibit to a 4-H Trail Class show.”

Passengers are treated to breakfast and dinner while aboard. The train arrives in Pueblo during the 2007 Colorado State Fair Parade and passengers are welcome to participate in a walking tour of Pueblo’s Historic Union Ave. District. A free shuttle service is provided from Union Depot to the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Once at the fair, train passengers are treated to a barbecue lunch and unlimited carnival rides.

Pulled by one of largest steam engines in the world, the 3985 train is comprised of beautifully maintained passenger cars. The Missouri River Eagle and the Columbine provide classic dome seating; while the Katy Flyer and the Portland Rose are superliner coaches with class. The train also features a souvenir car, a diner car and a dance car.

For passengers traveling from outside of Denver to ride the train there is a special room package available from the Oxford Hotel.

The 2007 Colorado State Fair features exciting and educational agricultural exhibits, a thrilling midway carnival, live tigers and stingrays, and much more!
