Two Popular State Fair Competitions Now Open
PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State Fair’s roots may be grounded in agriculture but you don’t need to farm or own livestock to join in on the competitions. Submissions are now being accepted for two events that often reach every corner of the state.
“The Fine Arts Exhibition and General Entry competitions are exciting in that everyone can participate and create their own State Fair experience,” said General Manager, Chris Wiseman.
In all, there are over 1,500 classes in 12 general entry departments as well as many special contests. Whether it’s wood carving, arts & crafts, pantry, horticulture, or a number of cooking competitions, there’s room for anyone who wants to compete for blue ribbon glory.
Registration fees range from $1 to $5. Some discounts are available for multiple entries. Entrants are encouraged to pay tribute to this year’s theme, “Mother Goose Rhymes!” in their entry.
A full list of competitions and entry deadlines can be found by visiting http://www.coloradostatefair.com/p/Events/Competitive-Events/240.
Fair Fine Arts Exhibition
The Fine Arts Exhibition is one of the longest running and finest traditions of the Colorado State Fair. The popular and prestigious part of the annual event showcases original artwork by Colorado residents.
The long list of mediums accepted include painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry/metalsmithing, and others. Two divisions for artwork submission are being offered: Emerging Artist/Student and Professional. All artwork chosen for the exhibition will be on display in the Fine Arts Building during the entire length of the Fair.
The 2013 Fine Arts Exhibition is a joint collaboration between the Colorado State Fair and Pueblo Community College. For more information on the exhibition, visit http://www.coloradostatefair.com/p/Events/Competitive-Events/241.
Submissions for the General Entry competitions or the Fine Arts Exhibition, can be made through the Fair’s General Entry office, Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm, or call 719-404-2080.
The Colorado State Fair runs from August 23 – September 2, 2013. For more information, visitwww.coloradostatefair.com.
The 2013 Colorado State Fair will mark the Fair's 141st year as Colorado's premier celebration of agriculture. The Fairgrounds provides nearly $34 million in economic activity to Colorado throughout the year; $29 million of that activity is driven by the annual State Fair event. In addition to showcasing Colorado agriculture, the annual event features one of the country’s largest traveling carnivals, artwork, crafts, food competitions, thrilling rodeo action, a wide variety of food and merchandise booths and a Fiesta Day honoring Colorado's ties to the Hispanic culture.
