Plenty of Free Activities at the Colorado State Fair

PUEBLO, Colo. – There are plenty of things to see and do every day at the Colorado State Fair that don’t cost a penny.

Besides daily discounts for gate admission, once you’re in the gates, the Fair has a wide range of free attractions and exhibits to entertain every fair goer. This includes free entertainment at the Pepsi Stage, American Furniture Warehouse Amphitheater and WeatherPORT Tent, as well as ongoing free attractions and activities to make your visit special. Among the free activities:

Milking Bessie

Kids get a chance to milk a real cow! Sponsored by the Western Dairy Association of Colorado, the activity has true milking cows and educational facts about the Dairy Industry.

Fine Arts building

You know the Fair has livestock and rodeo, but did you also know it has sculpture, painted artwork and photography contests? The results are on display and free for all to enjoy.

Butter Sculpture Demonstrations

How does it look when someone carves a cow out of 800 pounds of butter? You can find out, and watch her at work, at this Fair exhibit. “Butter Cow Lady” Sarah Pratt will work on the sculpture during the first weekend (August 23-25) and the sculpture will remain on the Fairground until the end of the Fair in the Colorado Building.

Welde Bears

The family oriented display shows talented grizzly bears balancing on ladders, skateboards and hoops. It’s fun and educational, located in Fountain Plaza.

Extreme K-9 Stunt Dog Show

America’s greatest dogs perform comedy, amazing tricks and stunts to show what a dog can really do.

Pole Vaulting on August 31

Colorado regional and national elite pole-vaulters will perform high flying competition in the annual Colorado Street Vault, featuring 30 of the top women and men collegiate pole-vaulters in the country.

Berkley Kids Fishing

Kids can pick up a fishing pole and try their hand at angling in this catch-and release exhibit. They’ll have a great chance in the well-stocked tank.

BC Characters

These furry, fun giant characters will be roaming the grounds entertaining the masses.

Plus, there are additional entertaining contests such as the Pet Rock Olympics, livestock and horse shows, small animal displays, cake decorating exhibits, cooking contests, and 4-H and FFA displays, plus much, much more.

The Colorado State Fair runs from August 23 – September 2, 2013. For more information,

The 2013 Colorado State Fair will mark the Fair's 141st year as Colorado's premier celebration of agriculture.
