Early Judging for Popular Colorado State Fair Competitions


PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State Fair’s beer and wine competitions have thrived over the years. The public is invited to attend the judging for these popular competitions, which happens before the start of the Fair.


“It’s exciting to see the variety of wine and beer that are created in Colorado from both the commercial and hobby participants; it truly is a reflection of all the wonderful flavors this state has to offer,” says Colorado State Fair General Manager, Chris Wiseman. “It culminates in the Foam Fest on August 23rd, which has quickly become a fan favorite.”


Home Brew Competition

Saturday, August 9, 9 am - 6 pm

2013 totals:  509 entries from 149 exhibitors


Craft Beer Competition

Sunday, August 10, 9 am - 4 pm

Special Events Tent, (East Patio of the Agricultural Pavilion)

2013 totals:  327 entries from 48 exhibitors


Hobby Wine Competition

Saturday, August 16, 9 am - 6 pm

Creative Arts Building, Kitchen

2013 totals:  203 entries from 33 exhibitors


Commercial Wine Competition

Sunday, August 17, 9 am - 4 pm

Creative Art Building, Kitchen

2013 entries:  50 entries from 11 wineries


Foam Fest Microbrew Beer Tasting 2014

SaturdayAugust 23, 6-9 pm

Special Events Tent, (East Patio of the Agricultural Pavilion)

Come and taste beer from more than 20 of Colorado's craft breweries at this event, hosted by the Fair and the Colorado State Fair Foundation. Admission is $30 and gets you a commemorative cup and the chance to try more than 40 of Colorado's best beers. You also will see the awards presented for the Fair's home-brew and craft beer competitions! The price does not include the cost of admission to the Fair.

The 2014 Colorado State Fair will mark the Fair's 142nd year as Colorado's premier celebration of agriculture. The Fairgrounds provides nearly $34 million in economic activity to Colorado throughout the year; $29 million of that activity is driven by the annual State Fair event. In addition to showcasing Colorado agriculture, the annual event features one of the country’s largest traveling carnivals, artwork, crafts, food competitions, thrilling rodeo action, a wide variety of food and merchandise booths and a Fiesta Day honoring Colorado's ties to the Hispanic culture.
